Japanese MotoGP Motegi Wrap Up

Our final look at the Japanese MotoGP Motegi weekend. Above, the Repsol Honda umbrella girl who drew Marc Marquez’s slot appear a bit surprised by the arrival of the soon to be crowned 2016 MotoGP champ.

 

motegi-motogp-2016-shizuka-okazakiThe Moto3 race saw a last lap battle between the new champ Brad Binder and Enea Bastianini, but the highlight for me was seeing 24-year-old Shizuoka Okazaki wear #13 in a wildcard home race appearance. Currently in sixth place in Japan’s Moto3 series, the J-GP3 championship, Okazaki finished well behind the regulars but received a warm welcome from the crowd each time she passed.

motegi-motogp-2016-takaki-nakagamiAfter Hiroko Ono appeared to claim a third place and podium spot in the Moto3 race, Moto2 rider Takagi Nakagami wanted to be the second Japanese pilot on the box. Ono’s third place was later disqualified due to a technical infringement.

 

motegi-motogp-2016-media-centerAs Nakagami fought for a podium, the local media watched the battle for third with prayers and gasps and finally groans of disappointment.
