Close up: Honda RC213V Rear Wheel
In comparison to the previous post showing this same area of the Ducati GP15, the Honda RC213V’s rear wheel section seems beautifully simple. As the wheel sensors are protected by a custom-made piece of carbon fiber I call The Aragon Shield, I had to shoot it from an angle even to see what’s going on back there.
The Shield protects the wheel speed sensors from cameras and Marc Marquez, and was added after the later hit Dani Pedrosa at Aragon in 2013. Since that incident, some version of this protection has appeared on each Honda MotoGP bike, though the design has varied over time and on different editions of the RC213V, RC1000V, and RC213V-RS. The above shot shows Scott Redding’s 2015 RC213V.
