No entity in the MotoGP pit lane is more protective of its technology than Honda. For me to get a photograph like this of the RC213V, for example, would be nearly impossible. The only people with access to see the factory bike similarly uncovered would not take a photo of it to show around.
When Honda, Yamaha, and Ducati are forced to service their bikes in an open pit lane, they put partitions between the mechanics and the media. Any attempt to hold a camera up and shoot down over or around the partition is not greeted warmly. Indeed I’ve seen some pretty hostile encounters between photographers and team members over just such attempts.
But at Phillip Island last season, Scott Redding’s Gresini Honda RCV1000R appeared as shown above in the garage for all to see, and this photo offers the tech-minded a new opportunity to observe the beauty of an HRC-designed motorcycle.
For my own part, I can sit and gaze at a photo like this for a long time, going back and forth between noticing a new detail about a part I recognize and wondering what this or that particular item does.
Images like this are often among the most popular here at PHOTO.GP, so I expect you may be the same way. I bid you: Enjoy!
