At any given race weekend, we photographers create images that will never be used in any media source, perhaps never even seen by anyone other than ourselves.

For my own part, I have images from race weekends that I have never seen. Often, when going back through a catalog from years ago, I find new gems that I’d either overlooked or never seen at a size larger than a thumbnail.

It’s just another way digital photography differs from the days of shooting film. When every exposure had a cost associated with it (not merely the film but also the processing), we were much more judicious in our decisions to press the shutter. Now we are free to fire away, with the only consequences being more images to sort through and more data to back up.

In 2014, PHOTO.GP Contributor Tony Goldsmith sent in several images that never found their way into an article. They’ve been waiting their turn to be viewed for long enough. Below are some examples of Tony’s fine work, shown now for their own sake, and because they are too pretty to sit in a folder any longer. Enjoy.
