Dutch TT 2015 – Race Day
Previous looks at the Dutch TT 2015: First Look, Second Look, Third Look.
The GP Circuit at Phillip Island is my favorite race track, but the second place honors are more difficult to award. Assen is certainly a contender, largely for its similarities with the Australian racing paradise. Turn after turn of interesting action and good vantage points for a photographer make it a pleasure to work at the Dutch TT circuit, and once again I’m pleased with the images I’m taking away after an exciting race weekend. I hope you enjoy looking at them. If so, please share this page with others who might enjoy it as well.
The Moto3 class delivered again, with a fantastic battle coming down to the final two turns, the famed GT Chicane. I mean, how is this for the final corner of a race? For the previous how many laps, any of these riders might have ended up the winner.
Before we got to that point, however, Maria Herrera was fighting for eighth place when Niccolo Antonelli lost control under braking for Turn 1 and knocked her out of the race.
I was really disappointed for her as I’ve been hoping for a good result from one of the two female riders in Moto3. She was philosophical about it later, but it must have been a crushing disappointment at the time. I hope she’ll take confidence from her pace and show the same in Germany.
Zulfahmi Khairuddin crashed in spectacular fashion, saying later that he was hit from behind by Remy Gardner, who managed to stay up and continue on after a detour into the stones. Khairuddin was all right and looks forward to better luck in Germany.
Incidentally, that haze on the right side of the second two images was caused by a photographer who was standing in front of me but off to the side. As the crash happened he moved directly in front of me, causing at first this haze and shortly thereafter a completely blocked view of the action. Thanks, dude.
Gardner rejoined the circuit as bits of gravel fell from his bike. This really makes me nervous every time I see it, and when the leading bikes come around for the next lap I just hope none of that junk on the track causes a problem.
A second Moto3 win for Oliveira, a second second place for Quartararo, and Kent extended his points lead, now 57 ahead of Bastianini. The race organizers thoughtfully had the graceful trophy presenters stand on the lower levels of the podium so they wouldn’t be taller than the riders.
