Thinking a lot lately about the start of the MotoGP 2015 season, I was reminded of this shot, a favorite image from the 2009 season.

I was walking back to the media center from the Turn 11 section when I saw this young Jorge Lorenzo fan standing apart from his family, taking a moment to look at the track.

His father saw me photographing his son and ran over to the boy, making him turn around to look at the camera. I took a few shots of the nervously smiling boy, even though I’d already got the shot I wanted, shown above.

In a rare instance of business savvy, I thought to give the dad a card so he’d have a way to see the photos. Some time later, a year maybe, I got an email from the dad. They were going to meet with Jorge and wanted a print of the photo to have their favorite rider sign.

I don’t know if they ever managed getting the signature, but I hope so.
