Round 4 of the 2015 MotoGP season begins tomorrow at Jerez, Spain. So for today, a flashback in pictures to the 2012 Jerez weekend. A lot has changed since 2012, and a lot hasn’t!

Above, Marc Marquez was the rider with the highest expectations for his future as a motorcycle racer, but while battling for the Moto2 title, a certain Pol Espargaro took it to Marquez at every opportunity, including the first turn of the first lap of the Moto2 race. Team Gresini Honda was still wearing black after losing Marco Simoncelli at the end of the 2011 season.

This was supposed to be Ben Spies’ year to take his rightful place among the dry race winners, but one of the strangest seasons on MotoGP saw mistakes, failures, and a general break down of a factory team lead to Ben’s departure.

Coincidentally, another rider was waiting patiently to take over Ben’s spot. What luck!

Danilo Petrucci was paying his dues with a major horsepower deficit.

Dani Pedrosa still had plenty of time to win a premier class title to go with his 125cc and 250cc championships.
