Mercedes boss Toto Wolff said all they could do was keep apologizing to Hamilton for the mistake that cost him first and second place.
Nico Rosberg received a gift of his third consecutive Monaco victory.
Sebastian Vettel ran a solid third until Mercedes’ error made it a second.
