October 2014 Desktop Calendar – Suzuki MotoGP
October’s hi-res desktop wallpaper calendar from PHOTO.GP features the return of the Suzuki MotoGP team, with Randy De Puniet aboard the GSX-RR at the Catalunya Test.
Suzuki last ran a two-rider team in 2010. Loris Capirossi’s Rizla Suzuki GSV-R looked like this. The Rizla blue paint scheme made for some nice colors when the reflections were just right. Indeed, some of my favorite shots from my early years in MotoGP feature Suzukis as subjects.
The Rizla blue is gone, at least there has been no mention of it returning that I’ve heard. We will have to see if Suzuki can line up a title sponsor for its return to the show. As for performance and competitiveness in 2015, Suzuki MotoGP Team Manager Davide Brivio set expectations fairly conservatively when he spoke at the official announcement in Cologne.
With Aprilia and KTM entering the premier class in 2016, coinciding with the switch to Michelin as the sole tire supplier to MotoGP and the control ECU, Suzuki will have a year’s head start to adjust to the rigors of competing once again at the top level of motorcycle racing.
