Scott Redding’s Alpinestars Gloves

When it comes to motorcycle racers, one size definitely doesn’t fit all. I don’t mean just Small or X-Large – sometimes a feature on a piece of equipment may suit some riders, while others don’t like it enough to get a knife out and start some customization.

While looking through images for the Custom Signatures with Scott Redding offer I noticed the above image from his Mugello Moto2 victory in 2013. One of the features of some Alpinestars gloves is that a piece of leather is sewn over the top of the ring and little fingers to join them together.

But for Scott Redding, this was something he disliked enough to cut that piece and free up his little finger so that part of it could move independently of the ring finger. (Redding now wears Spidi instead of Astars.)

Notice that Redding didn’t cut all the way through that top piece. It was still intact closer to the hand. But a partial cut like this allowed the ring finger to curl without forcing the little finger to come along.
