Remy Gardner qualified a respectable 24th out of 34 Moto3 riders, ahead of several with much more experience.
Usually the fastest satellite rider, Pol Espargaro struggled and finished ninth on the grid.
Andrea Iannone was ahead of rival Andrea Dovizioso, but still only second Ducati behind the surprising Crutchlow.
Hiroshi Aoyama was another surprise, moving to QP2 for the first time and finishing as the top RCV1000R rider. Nice work, Hiro!
Marc Marquez claimed his 12th pole of the season, tying Casey Stoner’s 2011 record.
