The MotoMatters Calendar is 7 Years Old

For 2010 the size grew wider and several other graphical elements changed. We added the riders’ names and the track names, though not yet their locations, for each image. David’s commentary shifted to reflect the featured rider as his subject each month.

We also included on each month’s grid some information about Riders for Health over a lightly screened Riders logo. Frankly, that featured was a bit difficult to read, so I intended to change it up on the following year’s calendar but for some reason did not. We may revisit this for the 2016 calendar if I can remember to do so!

2010 motomatters calendar spread

Riders featured: Colin Edwards, Valentino Rossi, Nori Haga, Randy De Puniet, Jorge Lorenzo, Nicky Hayden, Ben Spies, Marco Melandri, Dani Pedrosa, Casey Stoner, Hiroshi Aoyama, Marco Simoncelli.

The 2010 calendar includes several unique appearances such as Randy De Puniet, Nori Haga, and Hiroshi Aoyama. Dani Pedrosa is shown for the second time without his trademark 26 (he used #3 in 2009 and #2 in 2008). Marco Melandri appears on the Hayate Kawasaki, no less!

The shot of Casey Stoner is one that I have tried to replicate at Laguna Seca several times without success. I think they added an over-track sign here, at the entrance to the Corkscrew. Or else in 2009 I’d found a spot where I could isolate the rider cresting the hill without any distractions and a clean background, but then been unable to find that exact spot in the following years.

Another interesting thing about looking at these old calendars is that we see how the schedule has changed. Notice that while Sepang and Phillip Island are back to back, where is Motegi? In 2010 it was Round 2, two weeks after Losail and back to back with Round 3 at Jerez.

One more little bit about the 2010 calendar: September 17-19 listed Round 14 at the Balatonring in Hungary! At the time we went to press, that was on the schedule, though things had changed by the time September rolled around.

By the way, the 2015 MotoMatters calendar can be purchased here.
