Factory Option Teams (12 engines)

Ducati – As Ducati moves closer to the win/podium achievement that will reduce their allowances, engine use is looking more and more of a concern from the perspective of joining Honda and Yamaha on equal footing as factories limited to five engines.

Dovizioso opened #4 at Mugello and used it exclusively from FP3 onward. He used both #1 and #3 in FP1 and FP2 before opening #4. #2 has not been Withdrawn but has not seen use since FP2 at Jerez. He has eight engines unopened.

Iannone raced engine #1 in the first two rounds, used it for FP1 at Rio Hondo, then never again until it was Withdrawn at Jerez. He opened #4 for FP3, just like Dovizioso, but #4 saw shared duty with #3 before being raced on Sunday. He has eight engines unopened.

Pramac Ducati – Petrucci is in pretty good shape, even though his #1 was withdrawn for FP3 at Le Mans after having been raced in the first three rounds. His #2 has seen FP (but not QP) use in each round, but has not yet been raced. He opened #3 at Jerez and it has taken over race duty since, so both his #1 and #2 have three races each. He has two opened engines, with nine unopened.

Hernandez is in similar shape, though his path there has been different. After racing at Losail and Rio Hondo, #2 was Withdrawn for FP1 at Jerez, coinciding with opening #3, which was then used in every session, sharing duties in FP1, FP2 and FP4. #3 raced again at Le Mans before being used in FP1 and FP2 at Mugello. His #4 was opened for Warm-up and then raced at Mugello. Hernandez has three opened engines and eight unopened.

Ecstar Suzuki – Now things get really interesting, as Suzuki, with their 12 engine allowance as a new factory, have both riders still using two engines each. Suzuki’s reliability matches Honda’s best and beats that of Marquez and Pedrosa, both of whom have opened three engines so far.

Aleix Espargaro has raced #1 five times, then raced #2 at Mugello. He has 10 unopened engines.

ViƱales raced #2 at Losail and has raced #1 in the next five rounds. He also has 10 unopened engines.

Gresini Aprilia – The story with the other new factory effort is slightly different.

Melandri has now Withdraw three engines, #1, #2 and #4. #5 has not been used since QP1 at Le Mans, and #3 was used for FP2 at Mugello but then replaced when the team opened Melandri’s #7 for FP3. #6 was opened at the start of the Mugello weekend and used in every session except QP2. Melandri has two engines in service, three Withdrawn and seven unopened.

Bautista is faring a bit better, having Withdrawn #1 and #3 at Le Mans. He opened #5 at Mugello and used it exclusively. The sheet doesn’t even show which of his two other available engines was in his second bike. He has three engines in service, two Withdrawn and seven unopened.
