raw challenge #10

UPDATE: No more submissions, please. I have added my own version at the end. This is the version I created before I posted this article, and thus it has not been influenced by anything sent in by readers. I can’t say, however, that I would do it exactly the same way now, having seen some of the ideas below…

Thank again to everyone who participated in this, very challenging, Raw Challenge..

Welcome to Raw Challenge #10.

If you’re not sure what’s going on here, you might take a look at the previous PhotoGP Raw Challenges.

Intended to go along with the other articles in our photography technique section, the PhotoGP Raw Challenge invites you to process an image as you think best.

This time we’re working with an image of the Ducati Desmosedici GP as ridden by Andrea Dovizioso at Sepang, 2016. The photo was created with a Nikon D4 and a Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 zoom lens.

What will you keep, what will you crop out? What else will you do to this image to make it something worth showing around?

I have posted the original raw file for download by anyone who wants to play along. To download the raw file, click on the link below. WARNING: this zipped file is 13.1MB:

You will need a raw image file editor, I use Adobe Lightroom. If you don’t have the ability to edit a raw file, you can still play along with any app that can edit a JPG file. The hi-res JPG file (2.7MB) can be be found here:

As before, download whichever file you desire and get to work. Crop, adjust contrast, brightness, saturation, shadows, highlights, white balance, add noise, remove noise, remove dust spots, do whatever you think the image needs to be as good as you can make it.

1. Download either the raw file or the jpg.

2. Make your edits and SAVE AS a jpg file, 1020 pixels wide.

3. Include YOUR NAME in your processed file’s name. You are welcomed to include a text file with any remarks you’d like me to add when I post your edited file, or you can put them in the Comments section of this post.

4. Send your file to me via this link.

I will add contributed images to this post as quickly as I’m able. But please keep in mind that I am also doing other things, and there may be a delay between sending your email and your image showing up here.

As before, I have finished my own version and will post it as the final image.

Have fun!

Could use a little more tweaking but my take. Put the focus on the bike and the wings.

I’m no artist, but for me the GP16 has always been the bike Batman (or the Joker) would ride. So, here’s the comic book version.
