Red Bull Rookies Cup Round 2 – Assen
The riders contribute to the work load. Dutch rider Bo Bendsneyder prepares to put tire warmers on his bike.
Before the sighting lap, mechanics move from rider to rider to start each bike in turn. The pack then leaves pit lane for the first of two laps around the circuit. Since they do not have a warm-up session before their races, the riders do one lap, then ride through the pit lane to do a second lap before forming up on the grid.
Though his main job now is organizing the Asia Talent Cup, Alberto Puig was on hand at Assen to calm some nerves on the grid. Japanese rider (and Asia Talent Cup alum) Ayumi Sasaki gives Puig a thumbs up.
Fabio Di Giannantonio prepares to race. This young Italian rider is in his second year of RBRC competition and also races in the Italian Championship. In 2008, at ten years old, he was both Italian and European mini-moto champion. It’s no surprise that he’s one of the fastest Rookies.
In Race 1 at Assen, Bendsneyder and Di Giannantonio battled for the victory. To fight with Bendsneyder is a good position for Di Giannantonio: Bendsneyder has been on Pole for both rounds in 2015, and he won both races at Jerez. He won this battle as well, making his record three for three, while Di Giannantonio picked up 20 points for his second 2nd place of the season.
