Red Bull Rookies Cup Round 2 – Assen
As you’d expect with young racers with limited experience and big dreams, there are a fair number of crashes. Hernandez had a low side in Race 1 and walked away unhurt.
Czech Rookie Martin Gbelec crashed in more dramatic fashion, but also walked away and finished 11 in Race 2. He’d missed the first RBRC round at Jerez, out with a broken foot from a crash at another event.
Similar to Moto3, a RBRC race is full of passing and drama. Here Bendsneyder leads the pack through Assen’s GT chicane at the start of Race 2.
No one could keep up with Bendsneyder in Race 2, and while he rode away to his fourth win of the season, the battle for 2nd was close. Oscar Gutierrez leads Di Giannantonio (21) and Enzo Boulom (99) in the Race 2 podium fight.
Hernandez ended up in 16th place, only one spot away from scoring his first RBRC point.
Bendsneyder received a chilled, carbonated soaking from the Dutch crowd as he made it a perfect four wins in four races. He now leads the championship with a perfect 100 points, with Di Giannantonio in second (71 points) and Guiterrez in third (62 points).
The next RBRC round is in Germany, again sharing a MotoGP weekend. You can follow the Red Bull Rookies Cup on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
