Spoiler alert, this post includes results from WSBK Laguna Seca 2015.

After the near perfect weather of Saturday, Sunday morning saw a dramatic thunderstorm move across the Monterey Peninsula, soaking Laguna Seca to such an extent that race direction stopped allowing photographers to cross the track between sessions. My promise to stamp my feet clean before I stepped onto the tarmac was ineffective, and there’s just no arguing with Race Direction. So I got some extra exercise en route to creating the images below.

Jordi Torres Aprilia WSBK Laguna SecaAfter the rain drenched the track, WSBK teams took the opportunity to get some practice laps on wet tires in case the weather remained wet for race time. Here Jordi Torres tip toes around on the Pirrelli wets during the morning Warm Up session.

Randy De Puniet Alex Lowes Voltcom Suzuki WSBK Laguna SecaRandy De Puniet and Alex Lowes did a few laps in team formation while I tried to remember if De Puniet used to be good in the wet during his MotoGP days. Seems like that was true.

Chaz Davies WSBK Laguna SecaEven on wets Chaz Davies looked more comfortable dealing with Laguna Seca’s idiosyncrasies than those riders with less experience on the quirky track. Davies has enough years of AMA racing on his resume to make this a home race for the Welshman.

Alex Lowes grid WSBK Laguna SecaRecently I saw Michael Laverty in BSB one weekend and then Michael Laverty in MotoGP the next. He doesn’t have a twin, it’s the same guy. I know Alex and Sam Lowes are identical twins who oddly enough look exactly alike, but it’s still strange to see one in Moto2 and the other in WSBK on subsequent weekends. It’s kind of like the back to back M-Lav appearances, except that it’s totally different.

Leon Camier grid WSBK Laguna SecaIn every series there are riders about whom one wonders, what might he do on the (fill in the bike that’s leading that series, in this case) Kawasaki? Leon Camier is cast in that role in WSBK, getting what seems like everything and a bit more out of the MV Agusta F4 RR.

Leon Haslam grid WSBK Laguna SecaThere also seems always to be at least one rider who should be doing better given the team/bike he’s on. I doubt anyone feels this more strongly about Leon Haslam’s season on the Aprilia RSV4-RR than Leon Haslam. After the Laguna Seca round Haslam is 167 points behind Rea, who leads the Championship with 407.
