MotoGP Scenes: Sachsenring 2015 Race Day 2
Part 1 of Jorge Lorenzo’s plan to get in front and stay there worked. He got to the front.
The view from the rear at Sachsenring is not a pretty one. You can see just how much work you have cut out for yourself if you plan to move up. Work to be done.
For Lorenzo, Part 1 kept working on the second lap as well while the pack started to space out a bit. Rossi had passed Iannone and was looking for more.
Soon it was a four-man race, Lorenzo still hanging tough at the front.
But with three riders who were just plain faster, Lorenzo found Part 2 of his plan, the staying in front, to be problematic.
As Lorenzo faded and Marquez pulled away at the front, the battle for the podium came down to Pedrosa and Rossi.
Behind the leaders some great battles raged. Pol Espargaro used every inch of track, including the small jump before Turn 13.
One of the best fights was between the Suzuki teammates, with Maverick Viñales and Aleix Espargaro trading places several times until the final corner. Old age and skill beats youth and skill, again!
Marquez’ victory wheelie was underwhelming. This is its peak.
Rossi appeared happier, for while he didn’t win, he’d taken points from Lorenzo.
