2017 Arizona Mile AFT

Images from the 2017 Arizona Mile AFT race in Phoenix, AZ: Round 4 of the 2017 American Flat Track Grand National Championship took place on Saturday at the Turf Paradise race track. This is a special year for American Flat Track racing because the Indian Motorcycle company has resurrected the name of their famous team from the 1950s – the new Wrecking Crew consists of Bryan Smith, Brad Baker and Jared Mees, the three riders to claim the previous five Grand National Champion titles. The Indian team has won all of the season’s first four races, with Bryan Smith, above, taking his second win of the season in Arizona. As ever, click on any image to view it larger.

It was windy on Saturday, and several teams lost canopies. Mary Poppins is still missing.

In flat track racing the steel-shoed left foot rides the track surface on the turns and tends to collect more dirt than the right.

Brad Baker demonstrates the steel shoe technique.

With oil leaking on your rear tire you can really spin it up.
